LEARN by DOING, not do by learning

Dual Vocational Training combines the learning processes in companies and in schools through mutual collaboration.

The training that students undergo in companies must be closely linked to the professional profile of the training cycle and the programmed specializations. So the tasks carried out in companies must facilitate not only the production output, but also the learning itself, as well as, ultimately, the acquisition of skills relevant to the work and to the specialization, and to other types of useful transversal skills to improve employability.

Intensive Dual VT

Intensive Dual Vocational Training aims to provide the opportunity to obtain a qualification in Vocational Training through a learning process that is developed in collaboration between schools and companies.

Intensive Dual VT seeks to facilitate the entry of young people into the labour market by promoting quality jobs for this purpose. It gives priority to the qualification and competence of the worker rather than to the product and production process.

Advantages of Intensive DUAL VT

For companies:

  • It prepares qualified personnel adapted to the needs of the production network of companies in the Basque Country, and trained in business processes and culture. That increases the competitiveness of companies.
  • The programme provides the company with a system for getting to know and training people.

For students:

  • The students learn and acquire a great deal of work experience in real work situations.
  • They receive a salary in proportion to the hours worked according to their contract or agreement, and make National Insurance contributions, thus embarking on their working lives.

  • The links between companies and schools are reinforced.
  • The CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policies of companies are supported.

General DUAL VT

  • 1st year students are incorporated into the dual in-company training.
  • The skills of vocational training students are improved due to the increase in the students’ hours of in-company training.
  • Their employability is increased when their experience in the work environment and higher level of training is confirmed.
  • Access to this dual model is facilitated for micro-enterprises, small outlets, local outlets and the self-employed.
  • The number of students participating in dual training in the company is increased.

Characteristics of General DUAL VT

  • In general, it will last for the whole training cycle and will cover the two academic years, starting from the 1st level.
  • In this new itinerary, the number of in-company hours has increased compared with previous models. All of them will be of a curricular nature.
  • 128 hours, 112 hours for students under 18, to be done in Companies or Equivalent institutions; those done in the first academic year will not be paid as they are of a Curricular nature.
  • After completing the first academic year, the students will have various options for doing the 2nd academic year:
  • The students will attend the Vocational Training school as from September and will do the 2nd level of General Dual training. This training will have a duration of 60 days in a company or equivalent institution, and with an 8-hour day or a 7-hour day in the case of students under 18.

    The students meet the requirements established by Decree 83/2015 of 2 June, which stipulates Dual Vocational Training in Alternation in the Basque Autonomous Community for the development of intensive dual training, and have a training and education contract or a scholarship. In this case, throughout the 2nd academic year, training in companies or equivalent institutions will alternate with training in a Vocational Training school on the basis of the programme established in each case.
