Who is responsible for the education of children and young people in the child protection system?
It is a responsibility that has been passed from one authority to another for years, perpetuating and exacerbating a situation of inequality of opportunity.
In 2022, under the ‘Erronkak ekimenak’ initiative, experts and researchers from various organisations began working on this issue. This led to the drafting of a guide for primary and secondary school teachers in the Basque Country, and awareness-raising sessions were held across the three territories.
Through the collaboration between the University of the Basque Country (UPV) and Ikaslan Gipuzkoa, two vocational training centres have joined forces to form a strategic and fruitful partnership.
Educational centres, care homes and the families of children and adolescents within the child protection system aim to develop promising practices.
The Meka vocational training school has committed to participating in this project to ensure educational continuity, well-being and academic hope for our teenagers. By placing the voices and needs of children and teenagers at the centre, the aim is to reach a consensus and adapt the educational outlook in a coordinated manner amongst all involved parties, always with equal educational opportunities as the central focus.
