This morning, the closing ceremony for the 125th anniversary of Vocational Training in Elgoibar was held.
In attendance were the Deputy Minister for Vocational Training, Jon Labaka; the Mayor of Elgoibar, Maialen Gurrutxaga; the Director of MEKA, José Mari Beristain; the Director of IMH, Alaitz Bastida; and representatives from vocational training centers, companies, and business associations.
On September 18, 1899, the charter for the creation of the first drawing academy was received. Taking advantage of the same date, on September 18, 2024, we began our anniversary celebrations, which came to a close today, September 18. Throughout the year, various activities have been organized: a philatelic exhibition, recognition of the BIEMH International Advanced Manufacturing Fair, the opening of the festivities, a coffee gathering on the history of vocational training, Don Bosko Day, open doors for alumni and companies from Meka and IMH, a work-café on future strategy, a UIK-EHU summer course, a visit from Lehendakari at MEKA Albitzuri to start the 2025/26 academic year and participate in the placement of the plaque commemorating the 125th anniversary.
In the morning, the directors of both schools planted an oak tree and a beech tree, and a commemorative plaque was placed outside the schools. Afterwards, the ceremony at the auditorium (Herriko Antzokia) was led by the students in the advanced management assistance program, during which a video commemorating the 125th anniversary was presented and oak and beech branches were given as souvenirs to different people who have been part of the history of the vocational training community in Elgoibar.
Before closing the anniversary year, we would like to thank the different entities that have supported us in the celebrations: the Elgoibar City Council, the companies (DanobatGroup, BESA, Geminis Lathes, Berkoa, Mancisidor, Ger, AVS, Nordplastic, Telleria, Laboral Kutxa, collaborators), the Machine Tool Museum and machine history enthusiasts, and finally to all the people, educational centers, companies, and institutions that make up Vocational Training in Elgoibar.
